Gary Lineker’s son has said his dad will never back down from his ‘Nazi’ tweet comparing the government’s asylum policy to 1930s Germany.

There is a growing fear among BBC bosses that ‘strikes in all but name’ will spread throughout the corporation’s sports and even news departments, leaving the Beeb ‘on the verge of Armageddon’.

BBC staff are fuming at how slowly the broadcaster responding to the crisis that left the Beeb’s flagship sports show in tatters last night, as an ‘insanely terrible’ edition of Match of the Day played out without the usual iconic music and titles, punditry or commentary.

The BBC mutiny rolled on, with one BBC journalist telling The Times, ‘There’s a complete absence of leadership.’ Another said: ‘This is Armageddon – essentially an entire division of the BBC has gone on strike.’ A Beeb presenter called Director-General Tim Davie’s handling of the fiasco as a ‘disaster’.
