‘Ghost train’ reported by Derbyshire police officers who heard loud rumble

PCs Joe Stafford and Whitney Holmes-Small were left spooked when they suddenly heard the loud rumble of a train as they prepared to pound the pavements in Derbyshire. StaffordshireLive says the pair were at Swadlincote Station in Civic Way when they heard the sound.

The pair also heard the toot of the horn as they were in the station yard. They said they heard the sound of the locomotive getting close to them as the leaves on the nearby trees started to blow.

It was then they heard the sound of a train’s horn. That is despite the nearest rail line being miles away.

Convinced by what they heard, the pair looked into the history of the town centre. They then discovered a train line did once run at the back of the police station, albeit many years ago.
