Former UK defence secretary Geoff Hoon alleges Downing Street insiders ordered him ‘in no uncertain terms’ to burn legal opinion that doubted basis for 2003 invasion

During Tony Blair’s time in office, Downing Street allegedly ordered former defence secretary Geoff Hoon to burn a secret memo that questioned the legality of the 2003 Iraq invasion. Hoon makes the bombshell claim in a new memoir.

In disclosures that have boosted ongoing attempts to strip the former prime minister off his recently conferred knighthood, Hoon reportedly revealed that Blair’s chief of staff Jonathan Powell had instructed him “in no uncertain terms” to destroy the legal document.

When reports of the allegation first surfaced in 2015, they were dismissed by Blair as “nonsense.” But Hoon has resurrected the claim in a tell-all book, titled ‘See How They Run’, according to the Daily Mail. The paper said Hoon has provided details of a “cover-up” at Downing Street.

The former Labour minister said he was sent a copy of the “very long and very detailed legal opinion,” written by then attorney general Peter Goldsmith, “under conditions of considerable secrecy” and told he should “not discuss its contents with anyone else.”

Describing it as “not an easy read,” Hoon said he “came to the view” after several readings that the memo was “not exactly the ringing endorsement” of the war effort that the British government and military chiefs had hoped for. Goldsmith had apparently written that the invasion would be lawful only if Blair believed it was in the UK’s national interest.

When my Principal Private Secretary, Peter Watkins, called Jonathan Powell in Downing St and asked what he should now do with the document, he was told in no uncertain terms that he should ‘burn it.’

However, Hoon said he and Watkins defied the order and decided to lock the memo in a safe at the Ministry of Defence instead. He noted that the document is “probably still there.”

While Blair has yet to comment, Powell has denied ordering Hoon to burn the memo, telling the Daily Mail that, at Goldsmith’s request, he had asked the former defence secretary to “destroy” a separate “minute” on the legality of the invasion that had been sent months earlier.

The explosive claims come as nearly 750,000 people have signed an online petition to strip Blair of his knighthood. Anti-war activists have long accused Blair of war crimes for sending British troops into Iraq and Afghanistan.

Dzhokhar Tsarnaev, one of two brothers who perpetrated the deadly Boston Marathon bombing, was told he must give back $1,400 in Covid relief, in addition to other funds sitting in the same prison account.

While the government cut a check to the 28-year-old Kyrgyz-American last summer as part of a nationwide effort to buoy those impacted financially by Covid-19, a federal court granted a request by US attorney Nathaniel Mendell to strip Tsarnaev of the funds on Wednesday.

Convicted in 2015 on 30 counts for the bombing – including using and conspiring to use a weapon of mass destruction resulting in death – Tsarnaev was ordered to pay in excess of $100 million in restitution, though has only contributed a meager $2,200 so far, prosecutors say. They added that he currently has nearly $4,000 in his inmate trust account at the supermax prison in Florence, Colorado, but has made few payments to relatives of the three people killed and hundreds wounded in the terrorist attack, instead buying “gifts” for his siblings, among other things.

Shocking scale of Covid relief fraud revealed

“The United States submits that the requested relief is reasonable and appropriate in this instance, especially in light of [Tsarnaev] prioritizing payments to his siblings over the victims of his crimes,” Mendell said in his filing.

A federal judge granted the request, ordering that all funds in Tsarnaev’s account be passed to the clerk of the court, and ultimately to victims and their families, according to a Boston CBS affiliate.

While Tsarnaev was sentenced to death, he appealed that decision, leading a court to vacate the sentence in July 2020, though he will remain in prison for the rest of his life regardless due to the sheer number and severity of his charges.

Dzokhar’s older brother Tamerlan, 26 at the time of the bombing, was killed by police after the two fled following the incident, prompting a four-day manhunt across Boston involving thousands of law enforcement personnel. One officer was also killed in a shootout with the Tsarnaevs during that time, while another died a year later due to wounds sustained while confronting the brothers.

After three days of tumultuous debates, fuelled by controversial remarks by President Emmanuel Macron, the French National Assembly approved a bill early Thursday morning that would transform the country’s health pass into a stricter “vaccine pass”.

More armed forces personnel are set to be drafted in to help the Welsh Ambulance Service, as the latest covid wave continues to wreak havoc on NHS staff levels.

Today, the service revealed that 346 frontline staff are currently absent due to covid.

Follow-up PCRs for asymptomatic Covid sufferers who test positive on lateral flow have been scrapped in a bid to ration tests.

Previous guidance to confirm positive rapid tests with more accurate lab results will be removed indefinitely from January 11.

The temporary change has been announced amid sky-high case numbers and unprecedented demand for testing.

Under the change, people who receive a positive result on a lateral flow device (LFD) will be required to self-isolate immediately for seven days, without PCR confirmation.

The UK Health Security Agency said the ‘vast majority’ of people with a positive LFD result can be confident they have the virus because case rates are so high. It estimates the number ‘false positives’ are as low as one in 3,000.

However, with just under 1.5million LFD tests being conducted across the UK every day, this could still lead to thousands of people who don’t have Covid needlessly having to isolate.

The Government has also axed the Covid travel testing scheme brought in to fight Omicron. From 4am on Friday, fully vaccinated passengers entering the UK will not need to take pre-arrival test.

Boris Johnson said Omicron is now so prevalent in the country that the measure is having limited impact on the spread of the disease.

Day 2 follow-up PCRs for UK arrivals are also being scrapped and replaced by lateral flows — saving people up to £60 per test.

A defendant being held in Virginia in connection with the Jan. 6, 2021, breach of the U.S. Capitol is extremely ill and at risk of dying because the jail refuses to provide proper medical care and a special diet for his celiac disease, New York attorney Joseph McBride alleges.

“They’re starving the guy out,” McBride told The Epoch Times. “They have moved him six times since he’s been detained. We can’t send him to a facility that’s not going to be able to take care of him.”

Christopher J. Quaglin’s case is the most recent in a series of allegations that Jan. 6 defendants have been beaten, tortured, and denied food and proper medical care while in federal custody. A group of 14 lawmakers on Jan. 3 sent a letter (pdf) to Michael Carvajal, director of the Federal Bureau of Prisons, demanding that “you use your authority to investigate this abuse or we will use our authority to investigate your failure.”

“Many instances of physical and psychological abuse, denial of medical care, 24-hour solitary confinement, denial of basic personal hygiene, denial of access to legal counsel, destruction of records, and general abuse of rights and mandated standards for prisoners have been brought to our attention,” the lawmakers wrote. The letter was organized by Rep. Clay Higgins (R-La.) and Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene (R-Ga.).

Worried about Omicron? Guess what? After 90 days, the vaccine they gave you is going to make you MORE likely to get infected from Omicron, not less. The longer you stay on the vaccine treadmill, the harder to get off in the future and the easier you’ll make it for the virus.

In short, we’ve been lied to about the vaccine. It is protecting you less and less over time. While you may get a benefit for earlier variants, the benefit for other variants (and likely other diseases) is going to be negative. In short, you are getting a short term benefit against Delta, but at the expense of a degradation of your overall immunity to everything else.

These vaccines may help you win the war against a variant that may soon be rare, but the price you pay is that you make your immunity to everything else worse. It’s a dumb tradeoff (especially since early treatments work so well). But the people making the laws won’t believe any of the science referenced in this article, so it will continue.

I want to tell you what this really means and how it is being attacked.

Summary: Refuse to comply with mandates. Now.

This paper means we will need to inject people every 30 days if we want to “protect” them. Based on the harm that the vaccines do to our immune system, it’s likely that the needed interval will shorten with each booster.

If people don’t get boosted as required, they will be MORE vulnerable to Delta and Omicron than if they weren’t vaccinated. That’s what NEGATIVE vaccine efficacy means. It doesn’t mean the protection wears off (like we were told). It means the OPPOSITE of what you were told: it means the vaccines helps the virus to infect you (by suppressing your immune system, probably permanently each time we are injected according to Dr. Ryan Cole). It means we were lied to.
