Joe Biden claims that his recent string of stays at his Rehoboth Beach house are not vacations since he can’t return to his Wilmington home while it is undergoing security upgrades.
Speaking with reporters Sunday in Rehoboth Beach, Delaware following a mass service, the President said, unprompted: ‘I have no home to go to.’
Almost every weekend, Biden escapes Washington, D.C. to Delaware – and used to spend all of that time at his home in Wilmington, Delaware. It has been a few months, however, since he has spent a night at his primary residence as Secret Service conducts security upgrades there.
‘So I have no place to go when I come to Delaware, except here, right now,’ Biden said, speaking of his home in Rehoboth. ‘I’m only here for one day.’
Biden’s bizarre comments had reporters questioning if he was suggesting on Sunday that he’s homeless.
‘No, I’m not homeless,’ he assured. ‘I just have one home. I have a beautiful home. I’m down here for the day because I can’t go home, home.’
Biden said the work being done on his Wilmington residence will make it more secure ‘in a good way.’
Biden’s Wilminton house was one of the few places where a stash of classified documents were found. Specifically at that home, the marked materials were discovered in his garage.
He first told reporters about the security upgrades in April – the same month he announced his reelection bid – while on his way to the beach house after returning from a trip to Ireland.
Biden arrived on the Delaware coast Saturday night after spending the earlier part of the day in Florida surveying damage from Hurricane Idalia. He was scheduled to spend Labor Day weekend in Rehoboth, but changed his plans after the storm hit.
The President is in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania on Monday to speak at an AFL-CIO rally.
