AMSTERDAM – The Dutch have to resist much more against people who flirt with conspiracy theories in which Jews are vilified. That says CDA leader and minister Wopke Hoekstra (Foreign Affairs). “Find those acquaintances, friends, family, confront, wake up,” he says at the national commemoration of the Kristallnacht.
According to Hoekstra, a majority of Dutch people are silent about anti-Semitic conspiracy theories that are being spread on an increasingly large scale. “We all know acquaintances, friends, and sometimes family in our area, who talk about Soros, Rothschild, Bilderberg and the elite,” Hoekstra said in a lecture. He states that it can be ‘tiring’ to ‘debunk these fables’. “Nevertheless, we have to do that,” says the CDA minister. “We have to talk to them. And tell them: don’t fall for it again, don’t get carried away by it. Recognize that you are part of a fixed and predictable pattern. Find those acquaintances, friends, family, confront, wake up. Listen to their concerns, but also hold up a mirror to them.”
